MOONSHINE AND VALENTINE

Image
Fantasy romances are rare these days so when I discovered Moonshine and Valentine, a Chinese drama, I was excited. A romance about a thousand-year-old alien immortal who falls in love with an ordinary human? I am so in. The story follows Guan Pipi, a timid aspiring journalist. This is a woman who lives as a doormat, always trying to please other people like her uninterested boyfriend and condescending best friend who likes her boyfriend behind her back. Then she meets a mysterious and very wealthy man who inserts himself into her life. At first, he frightens her and she runs scared. But he won’t back down because he has loved her for a thousand years and knows she will feel the same. You see, each and every time she’s been reborn, they fall in love. But there’s a catch. A curse. She never has long to live. This time, however, Master He Lan Jing (our romantic hero), is searching the ends of the earth to save her. It’s a romantic soulmate story that always ends in tragedy but can th...

Kiss Sixth Sense

Image
Kiss Sixth Sense is the fantasy rom-com that had everyone talking  with a great cast consisting of Yoon Kye Sang, Seo Ji Hye and Kim Ji Suk but it ended up being… something unexpected. Here’s  review of it.                            I have to admit I didn’t follow Kiss Sixth Sense weekly but rather binged it and it kept me quite a good company during some not so good times. Its premise had me interested from the start and I was really looking for something old-school clichéd with a fantasy spin – Kiss Sixth Sense was exactly that. I liked the main cast as well as the not so developed supporting characters and the drama had me entertained every episode.  Hong Ye Sool, the best account executive on Planning Team 1 at Zeu Ad is making her way up as a project manager. She has one secret: she can see the future when she kisses someone. One day, after Ye Sool’s lips accidentally meet the lips of her ev...

HEALER

Image
Sometimes wish I could capture that magical feeling when I first discovered dramas and everything was SO AWESOME, even if it had glaring plot holes or triple amnesia. Well, I haven't built any time machines recently (YET!), but thanks to Healer, I was able to recapture that feeling of really, really loving a drama for the first time in way too long. I loved this show.  There's a lot of hype over Healer, which definitely added to my personal enjoyment of the series. I don't always catch the biggest shows right at the height of their popularity, but this time, my personal fangirling happened to coincide with everyone else's fangirling, which only made me more excited.  I. can't. stop. gushing. over. this. show.  So if you want an even-keeled review, I might not be able to help this time... I guess mass obsession is great for the people caught up in the moment, but it does tend to put a damper on the viewing experience for people who come to the drama a bit later. It...

Celebrity (2023) Korean Drama

Image
The latest explosive Korean Drama entitled CELEBRITY that talks about the effect of social media on people’s lives. As expected, this thought provoking and very intense drama reflects today’s internet savvy generation. I want to expound on the message of the drama about the power of fame and anonymity especially in the context of social media, and the effects of our life choices in the lives of people around us. FAME is a beautiful word. It’s the culmination of a tumultuous journey to success. Usually, it’s a product of hard work, talent, and perseverance. Sometimes, it comes with sheer luck. But for others, they try to achieve it with techniques, cheat codes, and dirty tricks. While the means doesn’t always justify the end, meaning a success cant be called and won’t ever feel a real success when you achieve it through a dishonest means. But many people still resort to it because of greed, pride, and the sheer delusion of success. ANONYNIMITY is supposed to be the opposite of fame...

Hidden Love Review

Image
Going by the title alone, you can more or less guess what Hidden Love (偷偷藏不住) is all about. Add in the characters and setting, the story outline is already pretty clear. Hence, it is just a matter of whether the overall execution is good enough to make you feel invested in the couple and provide the right feel to the romance. Personally, I’m not a big fan of this genre due to the recycled plots. But neither have I given it up completely. There is always an occasional gem that surfaces every now and then. Is this the one? Find out in my Hidden Love review below. Main Characters Sang Zhi Sang Zhi is a schoolgirl who is witty and good in her studies. She loves drawing and doodling. She has an elder brother and loving parents who are protective of her. Hence, Sang Zhi leads a sheltered and happy life growing up in a well-to-do environment. Duan Jia Xu Jia Xu is a university student. He is also Sang Yan’s good friend and dorm mate. Jia Xu is a warm and caring guy despite his tragic ba...
