Kiss Sixth Sense

Image
Kiss Sixth Sense is the fantasy rom-com that had everyone talking  with a great cast consisting of Yoon Kye Sang, Seo Ji Hye and Kim Ji Suk but it ended up being… something unexpected. Here’s  review of it.                            I have to admit I didn’t follow Kiss Sixth Sense weekly but rather binged it and it kept me quite a good company during some not so good times. Its premise had me interested from the start and I was really looking for something old-school clichéd with a fantasy spin – Kiss Sixth Sense was exactly that. I liked the main cast as well as the not so developed supporting characters and the drama had me entertained every episode.  Hong Ye Sool, the best account executive on Planning Team 1 at Zeu Ad is making her way up as a project manager. She has one secret: she can see the future when she kisses someone. One day, after Ye Sool’s lips accidentally meet the lips of her evil team chief Min Hoo, she sees herself in bed with him in the future. While Ye Sool is c

HEALER

Image
Sometimes wish I could capture that magical feeling when I first discovered dramas and everything was SO AWESOME, even if it had glaring plot holes or triple amnesia. Well, I haven't built any time machines recently (YET!), but thanks to Healer, I was able to recapture that feeling of really, really loving a drama for the first time in way too long. I loved this show.  There's a lot of hype over Healer, which definitely added to my personal enjoyment of the series. I don't always catch the biggest shows right at the height of their popularity, but this time, my personal fangirling happened to coincide with everyone else's fangirling, which only made me more excited.  I. can't. stop. gushing. over. this. show.  So if you want an even-keeled review, I might not be able to help this time... I guess mass obsession is great for the people caught up in the moment, but it does tend to put a damper on the viewing experience for people who come to the drama a bit later. It&

Celebrity (2023) Korean Drama

Image
The latest explosive Korean Drama entitled CELEBRITY that talks about the effect of social media on people’s lives. As expected, this thought provoking and very intense drama reflects today’s internet savvy generation. I want to expound on the message of the drama about the power of fame and anonymity especially in the context of social media, and the effects of our life choices in the lives of people around us. FAME is a beautiful word. It’s the culmination of a tumultuous journey to success. Usually, it’s a product of hard work, talent, and perseverance. Sometimes, it comes with sheer luck. But for others, they try to achieve it with techniques, cheat codes, and dirty tricks. While the means doesn’t always justify the end, meaning a success cant be called and won’t ever feel a real success when you achieve it through a dishonest means. But many people still resort to it because of greed, pride, and the sheer delusion of success. ANONYNIMITY is supposed to be the opposite of fame. It

Hidden Love Review

Image
Going by the title alone, you can more or less guess what Hidden Love (偷偷藏不住) is all about. Add in the characters and setting, the story outline is already pretty clear. Hence, it is just a matter of whether the overall execution is good enough to make you feel invested in the couple and provide the right feel to the romance. Personally, I’m not a big fan of this genre due to the recycled plots. But neither have I given it up completely. There is always an occasional gem that surfaces every now and then. Is this the one? Find out in my Hidden Love review below. Main Characters Sang Zhi Sang Zhi is a schoolgirl who is witty and good in her studies. She loves drawing and doodling. She has an elder brother and loving parents who are protective of her. Hence, Sang Zhi leads a sheltered and happy life growing up in a well-to-do environment. Duan Jia Xu Jia Xu is a university student. He is also Sang Yan’s good friend and dorm mate. Jia Xu is a warm and caring guy despite his tragic backgr

'I, Robot'

Image
                                    1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. 2. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. 3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law. --Isaac Asimov's I, Robot 'I, Robot" takes place in Chicago circa 2035, a city where spectacular new skyscrapers share the skyline with landmarks like the Sears (but not the Trump) Tower. The tallest of the buildings belongs to U.S. Robotics, and on the floor of its atrium lobby lies the dead body of its chief robot designer, apparently a suicide. Det. Del Spooner is on the case. Will Smith plays Spooner, a Chicago Police Department detective who doesn't think it's suicide. He has a deep-seated mistrust of robots, despite the famous Three Laws of Robotics, which declare above all that a robot must not harm

Checking out the Chinese drama Only Side by Side with You

Image
I have been watching lots of Chinese dramas recently, but mostly the fantasy/historical genres. Only Side by Side with You is a modern day story with an interesting setting. I have never watched a drama with a leading lady who is running a drone company, and I was intrigued by the idea of such a geeky revenge plot. Read on to hear why I keep watching despite some cheesiness. I love well-choreographed action scenes, and this drama definitely delivers. The kicks, punches, twirls and feints could be set to music and it would feel like watching a music video. So, it was kind of unrealistic when the girl and guy who had just met for the first time in the parking garage turn to each other and nod, as if in perfect agreement they will simultaneously jump on top of that car together while holding hands, but the quirkiness of this drama is part of its charm. Unique Setting When I read that the leading lady owned a high tech drone company, I was kind of expecting them to be like military-style

Ikigai

Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life Reading new books is a regular part of my life therapy. It is said that everything happens for a reason.  For me, the purpose of book reading is to reset things- a reset for nature and a reset for our life too. Well, it has been for me for sure.                                         It has been few days when I am reading this book Ikigai – The Japanese Secret to Long and Happy Life. This book is all about the purpose of one’s life, and how it can lead to happiness. The authors Hector Garcia and Francesc Miralles when learned about Ikigai, decided to find the real meaning and how it works. They decided to visit Okinawa, the island with most centenarians in the world, who believe that their Ikigai is the reason to get up every morning. Just like the authors, Ikigai was a mystery for me too. Reading about the island and the community, centenarians, left me puzzled and curious to know and understand more about it. Now reading this boo
